Joint Meeting of the Greater New Orleans and Baton Rouge Chapters of the Association of Fundraising Professionals Black Philanthropy Month (BPM) is a global celebration held each August that honors the history, culture, and impact of Black giving. It highlights the role of Black donors, foundations, and nonprofits in strengthening communities and advancing equity through philanthropy.

Panel Discussion: “Many Voices, One Movement: Funding Black Communities in an Era of Retrenchment”

This panel will explore how funders and nonprofit leaders are navigating a shifting philanthropic landscape at a time when support for diversity, equity, and inclusion is facing growing pushback and resources are tightening, even as community needs remain urgent. The conversation will bring together voices from Baton Rouge and New Orleans to share how they are sustaining momentum, building partnerships, and maintaining long-term investment in Black communities while responding to both funding constraints and a changing cultural and policy environment. The discussion will highlight the challenges and opportunities ahead, with a focus on collaboration, resilience, and aligning resources with community-informed priorities

This panel will explore how strong annual giving, thoughtful stewardship, and long-term relationship-building lay the groundwork for future legacy gifts.

Panelists will share practical ways to integrate planned giving into everyday donor engagement, without launching a formal program or using technical language. The conversation will focus on identifying loyal donors, recognizing the right moments to introduce legacy giving, and using simple, donor-centered messaging that emphasizes impact and values rather than financial or legal details.

Attendees will come away with actionable ideas for breaking down silos between annual and planned giving, strengthening donor relationships today, and creating a clear pathway from consistent support to lasting legacy commitments.
